      EVENT DETAILS
      NEW WORK AT OLSON-LARSEN GALLERIES

On Friday, February 18 from 5 to 7 p.m., Olson-Larsen Galleries will host an opening reception for a group show of artwork by Michael Brangoccio, Timothy Frerichs, Bonney Goldstein, Gary Olson, and Jan Zelfer-Redmond. This event is free and open to the public. The exhibition will be on display through April 9.

In his large scale canvases, Michael Brangoccio juxtaposes objects, sizes, and relationships to arrest attention, to provoke questions, and to prompt observers into finding personal meanings for his canvases. In two decades since his MA from the University of Northern Colorado, Brangoccio has accumulated over 20 solo exhibitions and participated in 35 group shows in Florida, Maine, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Colorado, and California.

Tim Frerichs’ drawings, collages, and prints clearly follow from his interest in nature—especially botany—and attitudes pertaining to it.
Tim formerly taught at Central College in Pella and is now an Associate Professor of Art at the State University of New York at Fredonia. Institutional owners of his work include: Smiley Investment, Inc., Little Rock, Ark.; University of Iowa, Iowa City, and both the Universitaet Osnabrueck and Universitaet Paderborn in Germany. He has a B.A. from St. Olaf College and a M.A. and M.F.A. from the University of Iowa.

Bonney Goldstein’s oils on canvas present the viewer with relatively direct and evocative images, appealing in color, rich and varied textures, and a fresh sense of spontaneity. Earning her B.S. degree from Mills College and her M.F.A. from Goddard, Goldstein also studied at Arts Students Leagues in both New York and Denver. Bonney has works in major corporate collections such as IBM in Dallas, American Airlines in Denver, and in Iowa, at Iowa State University, Davis Law Firm, and Pioneer Hi-Bred International.

Gary Olson creates assemblages that mysteriously layer bits of wire, mesh and objects in a deep frame. Each precise construction takes on the appearance of a “floating drawing.” Gary received his M.F.A. from George Washington University and his B.A. in Art Education from Central College in Pella. Olson’s work is in several corporate collections including Allied Insurance, Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance and Zarley Law Firm in Des Moines as well as the collections of Iowa State University in Ames and Loras College in Dubuque.

When creating her oils on canvas, Jan Zelfer-Redmond draws inspiration from ideas and verbalized fragments which strike her as odd or bizarre, “ideas or objects that are beyond, or outside of the normal, ordinary . . . treatment of life”. After her B.A. from Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Jan earned a B.F.A in Painting from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Her work has been shown in several solo and group exhibitions, and more than 20 juried shows. Jan also was featured in a one-person show at the Sioux City Art Center.
