A GREATER DES MOINES CONFERENCE FOR YOUNG MEN OF COLOR 2019

Dear Mentors and Community Partners, "When we engaged with our young men of color we found that, contrary to popular believe, they seek peace. They seek safety. It led us to these questions; In today's society is there a safe space for young men of color? Does it exist? Can it exist? Are we willing to help them identify it, fortify it and multiply it?" -Bo James  This year, Hip-Hope Inc. has partnered with Drake University once again to host our 4rd Annual “A Greater Des Moines Conference for Young Men of Color” on Saturday, October 26, 2019 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Drake’s Olmsted Building. Our goal is to convince YMOC that they don't have to be constantly in survival mode to survive. They already possess the means to control their outcomes. Follow up and Track 20 YMOC of Special Interest for the next 4 years to observe how they progress from surviving to thriving. We are asking you to be this year’s title sponsor. This year’s conference theme is "WIN! WIN! WIN!".  We are planning for breakout sessions to be even more interactive and informative than before.  Our desired outcome for each workshop is to collect critical information that will allow us to provide each attendee with tools that will help them identify, fortify and multiply their safe spaces. Workshops presenters will be a mix of educators, corporate professionals, and community leaders focusing on topics such as leadership, team building, academic achievement, self-worth, financial responsibility, goal setting, cultural competency/awareness, emotional intelligence and obligations of citizenship. Keynote speakers will motivate and inspire. In addition, this year we plan to have a few workshop offerings for mentors only. As always, continental breakfast and full course lunch will be served.
